Wuhan China

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province, is located in the central part of China. It enjoys a long-established fame as a riverside city. The Yangtze River, the third largest river in the world and its biggest tributary, the Hanshui River meet in Wuhan dividing the city into three independent parts, namely, Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang. Wuhan features a convergence of two big rivers and an abundance of lakes. The city alone has nearly 200 lakes in total. Among the 8,494 square kilometers city area, 25% are waters and per capita water possession is ten times that of the developed countries in the world.

Wuhan has long been regarded as A Thorough to Nine Provinces. It is considered by the UN as an inland city with the most outstanding regional effect in Central China as well as a gateway city in China’s Remaking the West Campaign. Favorably located at the eco-geological heart of China, Wuhan is about 1,000 kilometers away from other Chinese metropolitan cities like Beijing in the North, Shanghai in the East, Guangzhou in the South and Chengdu and Xi’an in the West. Wuhan boasts a convenient water, land and air transportation network.. Most? major national South to North and East to West land transportation arteries intersect in Wuhan. By water, Wuhan enjoys the river to ocean transport lines and by air it is accessible to more than 60 domestic and overseas big and medium-sized cities. Apart from these, Wuhan is also one of the major communication hubs in China.

Wuhan has always been the trade and financial center in central China. It was listed as one of the Four Famous Towns even 400 years ago, which is justified by the historically recognized saying “ All goods sell well in Wuhan”. In early 20th century, Hankou grew into the second biggest foreign business and trade port next only to Shanghai and one of the four financial centers in China. Wuhan continues to be the battlefield for thousands of businessmen widely scattered over the city. Large supermarkets, chain shops, cafes, restaurants, clubs and star hotels are commonplace in the city and they jointly create a superb commercial environment and add up to the culture and leisure atmosphere. With an increased radiation radius of 1,000 kilometers and an annual merchandise collection and distribution volume of no less than 300 billion RMB yuan, the business and trade radiation function of the city has been enhanced by an unparalleled margin. Quite a number of world top business retail giants have business presence in Wuhan, to name just a few, Carrefour from France, Metro From Germany, Walmart and PriceSmart from America. Wuhan is also a regional supervision and management center for Chinese financial institutions, accommodating altogether more than 40 domestic and overseas financial units.

Wuhan is one of the cradles of Chinese modern industry. A century ago, Made in Hanyang was well renowned in Chinese industrial world. Fifty years ago, Made in Wuhan inherited and continued the reputation started by Made in Hanyang as Wuhan elevated itself to be an traditional manufacturing base in China. Today, Wuhan is making vigorous efforts to develop modern manufacturing industry. It is now one of the three automobile industry bases, one of the important iron and steel manufacturing bases as well as the biggest opto-electronic information industry base in China. Wuhan Optics Valley of China has developed into one of the high-tech industry intensive areas in China. Ten major industries constitute the backbone of Wuhan’s modern manufacturing industry. They are iron & steel, automobiles, opto-electronic information, machinery, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, environmental protection, food, textile and garment, paper making, packaging and printing and household appliances.

As a well-known historical parlance goes, the Kingdom of Chu is the only place with a large gathering of talents. Wuhan today ranks the third place in China in terms of the comprehensive science and technology strength and it is the scientific and educational center in central China. It is home to nearly 50 universities topped by Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science & Technology, 3 state level development zones and 4 science parks. Wuhan has always been listed in the forefront regarding its winning of National Science & Technology Fruit Award and the annual contract volume of technology transaction.?

In light of a survey conducted by the UN, Wuhan takes the sixth place amongst the 25 Chinese cities with most development potentials towering over any other cities in the central and western part of China. By far, 50 world top giants have had their business investment presence in Wuhan.

Wuhan is a renowned historical and cultural city with a population of more than 8.3 million and a history dating back to 3,500 years ago. It has long been a hot battlefield for militarists and businessmen, which, in the meanwhile upgrades it into a cultural melting pot and a city characterized by strong appetency. Being a riverside city, its rich human tourism resources are favorably represented by the hills, waters and gardens all over the city. Everywhere in the city can vigor and passion be sensed.
